Low-Scale Technicolor at the Tevatron

In multiscale models of walking technicolor, relatively light color-singlet technipions are produced in qq̄ annihilation in association with longitudinal W and Z bosons and with each other. The technipions decay as π T → bb̄ and π T → cb̄. Their production rates are resonantly enhanced by technirho vector mesons with mass MW +MπT <∼ MρT <∼ 2MπT . At the Tevatron, these associated production rates are 1–10 picobarns for MπT ≃ 100GeV. Such a low mass technipion requires topcolor-assisted technicolor to suppress the decay t → π T b. Searches for πTπT production will also be rewarding. Sizable rates are expected if MρT >∼ 2MπT + 10GeV.

We propose that the 3.2σ excess at ~150 GeV in the dijet mass spectrum of W+jets reported by CDF is the technipion πT of low-scale technicolor. Its relatively large cross section is due to production of a narrow Wjj resonance, the technirho, which decays to WπT. We discuss ways to enhance and strengthen the technicolor hypothesis and suggest companion searches at the Tevatron and LHC.
